# Interface overview

Footlight CMS  provides an interface for creating, editing and managing **Events**, **Places**, **Organizations** and **People**. The interface has three main areas:

* **Top menu—**Access notifications, your user profile, help, and log out. Notifications remain visible for up to 14 days.
* **Left navigation—**Access workspaces, [Taxonomies](/footlight-cms-guide/taxonomies.md) and [Settings](/footlight-cms-guide/settings.md) available to your user type.
* **Workspace—**View and manage [entities](/footlight-cms-guide/introducing-footlight-cms/understanding-entities.md) in the selected workspace.

## Workspaces

Enter a workspace to work on its specific entity type. [Entities](/footlight-cms-guide/introducing-footlight-cms/understanding-entities.md) are uniquely identifiable, machine readable and sharable. The entities you create are shared with Artsdata so they can be reused by others. You can also import entities from Artsdata instead of creating them again, reducing repetitive manual entry in Footlight and elsewhere.&#x20;

Each workspace includes a list view, a read-only view, and an entity editor:&#x20;

* **List view**—View key details about your entities and use controls to add and manage them.
* **Read-only view**—Review entity details and access the editor.
* **Entity editor**—View, add and edit details and publication status of a particular entity.

**To go to a workspace:**

1. In the left navigation, select the workspace you want to view. If you have access to multiple Footlight CMS listings, select the listing you want to view from the dropdown, and then select the workspace.

### List views

The list view opens when you select a workspace. Every list view includes options to:

* Add or open entities.
* Search, sort and filter entities.
* View key details for each entity without having to open it.
* Use More Actions menus to do common and specialized tasks.
